Hilversum International Rugby Festival 2027
The Hilversum International Youth Rugby Festival is one of the biggest days in European youth rugby. On Easter Sunday more than 75 youth teams from across Europe come to Hilversum, near Amsterdam, for the festival's 28th edition, and every team plays at least four matches, from 6-a-side tag rugby for the youngest players to full 15-a-side for Under 13 to Under 18. It is a day with real atmosphere: teams from different countries and rugby cultures, food and drink around the pitches, finals in the late afternoon, and a friendly international match and a DJ to close the festival. Girls play alongside the boys in the same team, as they do in the Dutch youth game. The trip around it is three nights in the Netherlands, with self-catering holiday-park accommodation for the squad and families. Choose between EuroParcs Buitenhuizen, in the Spaarnwoude recreation area between Amsterdam and Haarlem, and Recreatiepark De Boshoek on the edge of the Veluwe, about 35 km from Hilversum. It is an easy way to give a junior section its first taste of international opposition.
Ghent Easter Rugby Tournament 2027
The Ghent Easter Rugby Tournament brings youth and veterans' rugby to the historic Flemish city of Ghent over the Easter weekend. It is a long-established fixture on the European calendar, and a proper continental tour that is an easy hop from the UK. The rugby is played in one day, in two boys' youth competitions, both full 15-a-side: Under 16/Under 17 and Under 18/Under 19, with a veterans' tournament alongside. It is a chance for players to test themselves against clubs from other rugby cultures, and the day ends with a prize ceremony. The trip is built around it: a coach from your club, with the driver staying with you for the whole tour, and the ferry crossing.
Portugal Rugby Youth Festival 2027
The Portugal Rugby Youth Festival is one of Europe's biggest international youth rugby events. Every Easter, youth teams come to Lisbon from all over the world: across 18 editions, more than 40,000 players and 1,700 teams from over 30 countries have taken part. The 2026 edition had 120 teams, 347 matches and more than 1,900 participants from abroad. The 2027 festival, the 19th, is on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April at the Estádio Universitário de Lisboa, which is often the home ground of the Portuguese national team. The rugby is played on eight renovated artificial-grass pitches, and the venue is about 5 km from Lisbon airport. It is a Rugby Europe approved event, with international referees. Teams arrive in Lisbon on Friday. Each team plays three matches on Saturday, then play-offs and finals on Sunday, and every team is guaranteed at least four matches. Around the pitches there is a food court, a Coaches' Corner lounge, a fun park, the official store and a medical centre. The package is three nights in Lisbon on half board, in a hostel or bungalow park, a 3-star hotel or a 4-star hotel, with airport and festival transfers, entry, a welcome pack and lunch on both tournament days all included. Lisbon's city tourist tax is not included and may be charged locally.
